Proposal

I finally finished my proposal draft to hand in tomorrow. But I'm unsure if I will go ahead with this aim(The aim of this honours-year project is to look into and discuss at great depth the relationship between a director and their composers)as I kinda rushed it in the end.

But I have got some good ideas ready to go with this, and some directors in mind:

Wes Anderson and Jim Jarmusch, as well as looking at classic directors such as Hitchcock and Spielberg.

Onwards and upwards.

Pitch

After my pitch earlier today, my head was turned again towards the Spanish film music idea, but after conversing with my friends I'm going to tackle:

The aim of this honours-year project is to look into and discuss at great depth the relationship between a director and their composers.

This is something I feel I can get my teeth into and produce a good dissertation. It's also something I am thoroughly interested in.

More to follow tomorrow after I finish my draft proposal for Thursday's hand in.

Sidenote

I have the film Marie Antoinette here to peruse within the next day or so.

The film is probably more famous for getting panned at the Cannes film festival a few years ago, but I'm also led to believe the soundtrack for this "period drama" is rather unconventional due to the fact most of the music is rather modern with artists such as New Order and The Strokes lending tracks to the film.

Most "period dramas" would have music that would be from around the age the film is set, and not the anachronistic soundtrack that this film has.

I will watch this and report back my thoughts.

Progress? Maybe.

I have been thinking and worrying, more of the latter, about my dissertation subject more and more, and the idea of doing music in film, as my previous entry suggests, is something I really want to pursue for many reasons.

I have now been thinking of comparing and contrasting the use of an original music score against a compiled soundtrack, and the effect this could have on how the film is percieved. I could also look into the relationship the director has with the composer or curator? of the soundtrack.

My interest in films has stretched back years, but in the past few years I have begun to notice more and more how much of an impact the use of music can make in cinema.

Last year(3rd year)I undertook a project aimed at finding out how effective the music in Alfred Hitchcock's films were. Below is a sample of the music that I find utterly fascinating when paired with certain scenes in the film Psycho:

Within the next two days, my decision on what to do my project on WILL be final.

Ach. Blog issues tae the max.

Had problems with my last blog, so had to create a new one.

Here is the first and only post from the old one:

Puzzled

It's week 7 of 4th year and I'm on the brink of my crit session. I have NO idea about what my project will be about.

I will need to decide within the next few days as to what I'm going to do. I would like to do something relating to sound in film, perhaps Spanish film.

Who knows..
